The RSM Truck Racing Team
A Brief Team History
Nick, the owner of RSM Driver Training, was originally approached by Erik Forsstrum and Reima Soderman back in 2018 when they were looking for assistance in transporting their Sisu race truck to various British Truck Racing Association (BTRA) events throughout Britain and parts of Europe. Since then RSM have become more and more involved with the racing team, transporting the truck and equipment to race events, as well servicing and supporting the team with sponsorship.
In 2018 the RSM sponsored truck was entered into 4 races towards the end of the season in order for it to qualify to race in the 2019 season with a mechanical engine. In two of these races the RSM Truck Racing Team achieved podium places, winning a 2nd and a 3rd place trophy.
Having started the 2019 season, the RSM Truck Racing team’s first season proved very successful with the team finishing in 6th place in the British Truck Racing Championships.
The new season of 2020 sees us converting our race engine to be electronically controlled and we look forward to bettering last years results.

Our Driver - Erik Forsstrom
Erik Forsstrom started racing trucks in 2001 with an old Sisu Jyry that had a Rolls Royce engine. Between 1979 and 1982 he raced in the Finish Rally Championship driving a Saab 96. Over the years Erik has raced in Finish Camaro cup, Endurance Cup and some Formula Ford Races. He has even tried an Old Formula 1 car at Kemora, Finland.
Erik got his driving licence in 1969 and has been driving commercial vehicles ever since including buses, lorries and tow trucks. He started his own transport company in 1977 and still works almost every day as a driver for his own company, even though officially he is a pensioner.
Erik was in Mantorp Sweden in 1985 watching a truck racing championship race when he thought if he ever had enough money, he would buy a race truck. Years later, it was in 2001 that Erik finally decided to buy a truck.
Erik says his favourite season truck racing was in 2015 when he finally won the Finish Championship. However, the 2019 season comes very close to it, as he really likes British tracks, the fans and the fact that there was a lot more trucks on the track. Brands Hatch is Eriks favourite track with all its curves and elevation differences.
The RSM Racing Truck
The Sisu truck which we currently race in the BTRA Championships was built in the 1980’s at Karjaa, Finland by the Sisu factory racing team to compete in the European Championship.
Over the years, other than the frame everything else is new, modified or changed. The truck had a new Cummins M11 engine built by Kauko ‘Take’ Koivisto, engine which developed about 1150hp and 4400 Nm (now it has a Powell’s engine). It has an Eaton Fuller gearbox and the differential is from Scania. It has leaf springs and drum brakes in every corner.
The fastest the truck has ever been driven is 175km/h ( approx 109mph)
